So, providing a blank page with blank frames is ok, but the artists need, at least, to be able to:ġ - modify the aspect ratio of those blank frames (16:9 or else)Ģ - to select each single frame in order to open it in a ‘drawing mode’, by simply double-clicking a frame.ģ - to add “camera movement arrows” and other notes Over the drawings. showing with some arrows where there is a zoom from A view to B view, or a pan movement.). Storyboard artist need to quickly sketch drawings and to frame them into a page, sometimes adding camera movements references (e.g. Although higher frame-rate capabilities and an always visible and scrollable interactive timeline (with keyframes thumbnails) would definitely help while animating.Īs for the Storyboarding module, sorry guys, the concept is completely wrong: storyboards are created BEFORE animations, not from already animated frames! Your Animation module, even if quite old-fashioned, works fine to create traditional frame-by-frame-hand-drawn animations. Storyboarding and Animation are two completely separate and different phases in the animation process. Procreate is $10 and feels much more professional and polished. $20 is a reasonable price for this software, but I could also argue for it being $10. It does what it claims to do, although not optimally. The other issues are just for quality-of-life, but this one is unacceptable. As far as I’m concerned this is the biggest issue as it completely ruins a large portion of the apps functionality.

THE MAJOR ISSUE: When rendering with hidden layers, the software will VERY OFTEN merge and show layers that I have hidden and that I do not want to show in the final render. No pinch zoom when using the cut/paste tool. If you switch layers, you can no longer undo/redo your last action. This one is more minor but it’s still an issue. The undo button does not remember actions between layer switches. Just move the prompt over the toolbar or perhaps in the bottom left/right corner of the screen.

While it only lasts for about 3 seconds, imagine those accumulated waiting times over the course of 500 tool switches during a large project.

Every time I switch tools (which is often) I have to wait for the prompt in the middle of the screen to disappear so I can see my frame in order to start working again. When using the Apple Pencil’s gesture to switch between erasure/tool, the prompt in the middle completely kills my workflow as it’s super annoying and in the way. Layers will sometimes merge and bring all other layers, hidden or not into the one I’m working on, ruining any layering I have prepped to iterate on rough animations. However, there are some pretty glaring issues, and while they are minor, they do really dampen the overall experience. The brushes are pretty decent and you can get away with making some pretty nice animation. Rich 'n Creamy's Review of Animation Desk Ultimate Reviewed on 8/31/19 2:08 PM
